Zhang Ziyi is ranked number 1 on a list of the 50 most beautiful people in China according to a leading Beijing newspaper.

The annual event, which was organized by Beijing news newspaper on Friday (December 19), is now on the forth year of it.

The 29-year-old Chinese beauty was reported by the paper that her press conference during the film festival in Cannes to raise money to help people who suffered from the Sichuan earthquake, which happened in May and killed 70,000 people, earned respected throughout the world.

Zhang Ziyi said, “I don’t pay a lot of attention to matters of appearance,” she told the newspaper. “Beautiful women are fundamentally independent and confident.”

Olympics diving winner Guo Jingjing, the Mummy 3 actor Jet Li and Chinese pop singer Li Yuchun, who is best known in the nation-wide singing contest Super Girl in 2005 were also placed in the top 50.

The actress was offered the first role at age 19 in ‘The Road Home’, which won the Silver Bear award in the 2000 Berlin Film Festival and she rose to prominent when she starred in 2000 ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ as the headstrong Jen. She won the Independent Spirit’s Best Supporting Actress Award and the Toronto Film Critics’ Best Supporting Actress Award.

Zhang Ziyi made her debut in American film when she played in 2001 ‘Rush Hour 2′ with the role of Hu Li. In 2005, she starred in ‘Memoirs of a Geisha,’ and received a 2006 Golden Globe Award nomination, a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination and a BAFTA nomination.

The most beautiful lady in China is currently dating her Israeli venture capitalist beau Vivi Nevo, who was once linked with British supermodel Kate Moss. The couple are now engaged and going to get married next year in March.
