Mischa Barton is a busy actress with a whole-year tight schedule but she dedicated her precious time off the carpet and out of Hollywood visiting poor children in South Africa.

The Sixth Sense actress has volunteered to join Save the Children’s Board of Celebrities for the Rewrite the Future campaign in order to give impoverished children a hand. The mission is expected to raise over millions dollars in donation to aid war-stricken and homeless kids.

The English-Irish star went to school children in the poverty-stricken township of Soweto, an urban area in the City of Johannesburg, in Gauteng, South Africa.

The 22-year-old actress said that, “I visited a primary school in Soweto, where a lot of the children are orphans and there is a high incidence of AIDS,” Barton reveals. “I helped prepare and serve lunch to the children; it’s just simple maize and for many it’s the only meal they get. We chatted and I took part in their class. They are heartbreakingly beautiful children!”

Mischa Barton is expecting a new irrigation system for Soweto from her latest mission and also she hopes the work with Save the Children will lead to an ability to the township to be able to grow its own food.

“I feel so privileged that I could just meet [the children] and hope to make a difference!” Mishca added.

Misha Barton, who was ranked #52 in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2005 special supplement, has recently broken up with her boyfriend Rooney guitarist Taylor Locke after they came back from this charity safari trip. According to the report, Missha was the one who jilted him after their seven-month relationship.

A source told In Touch Weekly, “They fought almost every day on the trip. She broke up with him just a few days after they returned to Los Angeles”.
