Catherine Zeta Jones to be Queen Cleopatra

Catherine Zeta Jones is to star Cleopatra in a new musical movie about the Egyptian queen in the Hollywood version.

I can’t think of any other actresses who can take the Legend of Zorro star’s place as the leading role in the movie does require the most gorgeous one.

Catherine Zeta Jones, who has won on Oscar in 2003 as Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 2002 musical Chicago, is the one who will light up the big screen in the upcoming film.

Steven Soderbergh, who directed 2000 Erin Brockovich and four-Oscar awarded movie ‘Traffic’, in which Catherine also starred, will be directing the £18 million movie of which the setting will be in 1920s America, instead of ancient Egypt.

According to the reports, the Van Helsing actor Hugh Jackman is now in talks to play a lead role Marc Anthony, Cleopatra’s Roman lover.

The flick, whic is now entitled ‘Cleo’, is the first musical movie that Steven Soderbergh will direct. A soundtrack is being composed by rock band Guided by Voices to accompany a script penned by author James Greer - the band’s former bass player.

Starring as Cleopatra will be Catherine’s second time in a silver-screen musical following the 2002 big hit Chicago in which she played Velma Kelly and was awarded an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress.

Catherine is supposed to sing in the movie as well and she would be happy to do that, why not? She has been successful with Chicago and this time will be her first mega project after the stunning performance in Chicago.

The Terminal actress will be following Elizabeth Taylor’s footsteps in playing Cleopatra.

Elizabeth Taylor played alongside Richard Burton and Rex Harrison in the precious version of Cleopatra which was directed and co-written by Joseph Mankiewicz in 1963 and won four Oscars.
