Cate Blanchett on postage stamps

Cate Blanchett is honoured to feature on a set of postage stamps during Australian national day celebration and cannot wait to be licked by the Aussies.

The Australian actress, who misses out on 2009 Oscar nomination for her role in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ which she stars alongside Brad Pitt, has recently revealed how much she is delighted that her face is put on the postage stamps.

In a statement, Cate said, “I am utterly, deeply, humbled and chuffed by the fact that I’m a stamp. I’m going to be licked by millions of Australians and I can’t wait.

“It is also recognising the value of the arts in Australia. It brings it into general consumption and if I’m part of that, I feel intensely proud.”

Apart from Cate, another four famous Aussie actors and actresses, including Nicole Kidman from ‘Moulin Rouge’, Russell Crowe from ‘Gladiator’ and Geoffrey Rush from ‘Shine’, will be licked by millions of Australians as well.

Each star features on two stamps – one a portrait and the other one, they feature in a role for which they won or were nominated for an Academy Award.

Nicole Kidman, who has a daughter Sunday Rose with her country music singer hubby Keith Urban, finds her appearance on the stamps a big pride.

She said, “I have a vested interest in Australia. I want my children to live here at certain times of their life and see how wonderful it is.

“It would be lovely for them to lick a stamp, put it on an envelope and say ‘that’s my mum’.”

Geoffrey Rush, who is also delighted, says, “It’s a classy thing to know you’re on security paper.”

The four stars will be presented with 24-carat gold replicas of their stamps which are being on sale now.
